Iran Persian Gulf 29.01.2013 - Iranian Oil Platform sinks at bottom of Persian Gulf
ranian Authorities confirmed on Wednesday it was seeking ways to recover a natural-gas platform constructed by an affiliate of the Revolutionary Guards of Iran after it sunk in the Persian Gulf, a setback for the country in its endeavor to handle with international sanctions.
Divers have been deployed to observe how the US$40 million, 1,300-metric-ton natural-gas platform may be pulled up, in the huge South Pars field, the state-owned Pars Oil and Gas Co. Ltd., released on its website.
However, a full-scale restoration has yet to begin because of unfavorable weather conditions in the Persian Gulf, it also noted.
The natural-gas platform sunk to the bottom of the Gulf as it was being installed by POGC and its constructor, Iranian Marine Industrial Co., or Sadra that is being controlled by the Revolutionary Guards.
POGC also stated it was investigating the real reason that caused the accident and it is still unclear. A spokesman for Pars Oil and Gas could not be reached.
Faced with a ban to import key oil technologies from the United States and the European Union, Iran is making its own oil equipment in order to achieve self-reliance.
