In 1980, the United States built an aircraft for a mission that sounded impossible. Land a large military plane inside a stadium in the middle of Tehran. Rescue hostages. Take off again before anyone could respond. The aircraft was a Lockheed C 130 Hercules. The program was called Credible Sport. Engineers transformed the C 130 into something closer to a missile than a transport aircraft. They attached 30 rocket motors across the nose, wings, and fuselage.
